A STUDY OF PRE- AND POST-MATERNITY DISCOURSES OF FEMALE EMPLOYEES IN THE BUSINESS SECTOR IN ITAPIRA

Abstract

This study emerged from a desire to understand the impact of motherhood on the professional lives of female employees in the city of Itapira. While social transformations have expanded women's participation in the labor market, significant challenges persist—particularly for working mothers. This qualitative research, conducted through the use of questionnaires, compared the responses of mothers and non-mothers. The findings indicate that non-mothers tend to be younger and prioritize financial stability and personal development, whereas mothers face greater difficulties in balancing career and motherhood. Moreover, despite the progress made in women's integration into the workforce, the study highlights the continued existence of structural barriers that must be addressed. Accordingly, the research emphasizes the importance of creating more humane and supportive work environments that respect and empower women—especially mothers—in both their professional and personal journeys.
